Everyone keeps talking about the latest trend in nails and most are still trying to understand what a gel manicure is really all about. You should know that a CND Shellac manicure is the only nongel manicure on the market. I’ve heard a lot of conversations and concerns over the years with my girlfriends surrounding the illusion that it is difficult to remove or indeed the misconception that it has ruined nails, leaving them cracked, thin, and frail. This is all in the hands of your local nail salon and it should never be anything short of a wonderful experience. I for one always feel on top of the world when a new flash of colour adorns my nails and I feel somewhat more confident when meeting people, so-muchso that my whole persona changes when I am armed with a fresh manicure and I feel that I’m ready to take on the world.

There are over 30 shades of lacquer, and they can be layered for endless possibilities. That’s a key statement here because I keep hearing “they don’t have any good colours” as a way to justify the burden of previous visits to other salons where chipped polish seems to be a regular occurrence. The process goes like this: after a dry manicure—pushing back cuticles, shaping nails etc, one of their technicians prepares the nail surface. They then layer on a base coat and you have to place your hands under a CND (UV) lamp. Next comes two (or sometimes three) layers of colour, after each you “cure” your nails in the lamp and then comes the final layer of top coat, which is cured once again. Nails are dry at this point, which becomes more apparent when the technician wipes the tops of them with alcohol to remove the sticky layer on stop.
Some may argue that receiving this type of manicure isn’t good for your overall nail health, but I would argue that the cost, convenience and time that it saves me is 100% worth it. Being a true “girl on the go” I need to keep my nails properly maintained. This type of manicure keeps me from having to squeeze in a weekly nail appointment and, more importantly, gives me more time to show them off at every opportunity!
Next up, on my beauty voyage was my hair. As fun as the beach is, it is also hot, sandy, and sometimes even windy. If I could choose one word for the best beach hairstyle it would be containment. The styling essential for a matte textured look was spritzed on my hair strands prior to my braids to assist with unleashing my inner beach goddess.
Dessange Perfecting Serum was applied as a finishing touch due to its perfecting and UV protection qualities, including hyaluronic acid for smoother, tamer hair. In addition, it leaves hair looking healthy and shiny after you unbraid your hair. Now, you can either wait a few hours to untie your hair or leave it overnight for next day beach wavy hair. However, I’ll be honest I like the result of the overnight french braid more and it is so comfortable sleeping on with them. I got three days worth of hairstyles after my wash and visit from their in-house braid bar! Before I left I couldn’t help but notice the extensive skin care selection, and the reception staff organised a consultation for my skin pronto. This bespoke session was very interesting to learn about my skin type, especially since I’m extremely fair and walk in the shadows regularly for fear of burning. Alas, I left Dessange loaded with a bundle of UVA/UVB products suitable for my skin tone to have me primed and ready to bask safely in the sun – in true fashionista style, of course!
