When Time Turns Gracefully

With a swivelling case dating back to the 1930s, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new Reverso Classic Monoface Origin keeps its legacy alive through ingenious reinvention.

Jaeger-LeCoultre recreates one of its most iconic designs with the Reverso Classic Monoface Origin – a new feminine model that celebrates the enduring charm and adaptability of the Reverso’s Art Deco design.

First introduced in 1931, the Reverso was born out of a challenge posed by British polo-playing military officers stationed in India during the Raj. They needed a watch that could withstand the impact of the game without damaging its crystal. The solution was both practical and ingenious, a case that could swivel to protect the dial, creating an immediate fusion of function and form. Quickly, it transcended its sporting origins to become a design icon admired by tastemakers from all walks of life. Its geometric silhouette and swivelling double-sided case (protected by a historical patent, CH159982) cemented its place as one of the most recognisable watches in the world.

The new creation takes inspiration from the earliest women’s Reverso timepieces of the 1930s and introduces a new, refined case size to today’s style. Measuring 32.5mm x 16.3mm, it has the same proportions as the original Reverso Dame from 1931. Perfectly balanced and elegantly discreet, this new dimension honours the original while catering to modern tastes for quiet luxury.

Its polished steel case frames a beautifully detailed dial. In the centre, a sunray guilloché pattern catches the light, extending seamlessly into the classic chemin de fer minute track. Surrounding it, the vertically brushed outer section provides contrast and texture, set against finely transferred Arabic numerals. The watch comes with a choice of a five-row steel bracelet for a sleek, modern look or a blue alligator strap for something more classic and elegant.

As with the earliest Reverso designs, the flip side of the Monoface case is left blank, open for personalisation. Whether engraved with initials, adorned with a meaningful date or decorated with lacquer, it becomes a private canvas for self-expression and sentiment.

With the Reverso Classic Monoface Origin, Jaeger-LeCoultre reminds us why some designs never fade. Nearly a century after its creation, the Reverso remains as relevant as ever, an emblem of craftsmanship, grace and understated beauty.
