A budding talent from the Middle East, Mrunal Khimji launches her debut collection, Lehren.
Mrunal Khimji’s debut collection entitled Lehren is a balanced mix of grace, fluidity and craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from the movement of the ocean. The name itself, which means ‘waves’ in Urdu, speaks of the rhythmic flow that defines the essence of the collection. Pure crêpe fabrics are used for the garments and drape effortlessly, bringing out a sense of natural elegance. Each creation in this collection – from ethereal saris and flowing kaftans to modern jumpsuits and dresses – embraces the calming, free-spirited nature of the sea.
Oman-based, she fuses Indian and Arab aesthetics in Lehren. The collection brings together rich cultural influences, blending the opulence of Indian textiles with the understated refinement of Arab design. Intricate surface detailing, achieved through time-honoured techniques, brings these elements to life, making each piece a testament to the skill and hard work of the artisans who created them.
Apart from design, this ensemble also focuses on being sustainable. Mrunal’s commitment to ethical fashion is evident as she works closely with the artisans. Each piece is handcrafted with care, ensuring that it not only looks good but is also made responsibly. It’s a reflection of the designer’s dedication to supporting these textile artists while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship.
With Lehren, Mrunal echoes the sound of the sea while weaving together stories of craft, culture and ethical elegance.
