VOLVO CONTINUES THEIR SUCCESSFUL RUN WITH THE 2020 XC40

ONCE AGAIN, THE VOLVO BRAND HAS PRODUCED A FUNCTIONAL AND FAMILY- FRIENDLY SUV OF APREMIUM STANDARD.

Volvo has been producing motor vehicles since the late 1920’s and have managed to attract a huge number of fans and customers from around the world. This Swedish car manufacturer’s ability to consistently design and produce outstanding vehicles is the obvious secret to their popularity, with their impeccable safety record adding to this success. When we at Ohlala

were offered the opportunity to test drive the 2020 Volvo XC40 T4, compliments of Motor City, we quickly accepted and soon found ourselves in the presence of this impressive, compact luxury SUV.

The XC40 is a sophisticated looking vehicle, with a powerful stance accentuated by bold lines, gentle curves and quality finishes. Its youthful design exudes confidence and ability whilst maintaining the commanding presence held by an established performer. This car has a very attractive profile that highlights both the macho and

exclusive feel of exterior. The 18- inch alloy wheels add to the XC40’s imposing appearance and along with the aerodynamic spoiler, give the vehicle a sporty flair. The skid plates located at both the front and the rear ends add further attitude to the vehicle’s overall appearance. Once inside, the XC40 continued to impress us. The firm yet comfortable leather seats complete with pillow headrest welcomed our bodies into the cabin area. The 3-spoke, soft leather, sports steering wheel felt perfect in hand and immediately instilled us with a sense of control over the vehicle. The multimedia screen is 9-inches of quality with sharp graphics and a user-friendly interface. This system is fitted with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard. The designers at Volvo have ensured you will not go wanting for storage space in the 2020 model. These spaces include, amongst others, a more functional storage space in the doors and under the seats than previous models, a special space for phones that includes

inductive charging, a fold-out hook for small bags and a removable waste bin in the tunnel console. The 2 -Zone Electronic Climate Control and panoramic sunroof are both options to deal with those hot summer days.

The rear seating offers enough space for three people with ample leg and head room on offer throughout this SUV. Three top tether points are provided to fix children’s car seats. There are two cup holders located at both the front and the back of the vehicle and the rear seated passengers have access to their own air vents. The boot is spacious with a holding capacity of 460-litres, plenty of room to fit luggage, strollers or any other cargo.

Once out on the tarmac, the XC40 T4 soon proved itself to be more than a pretty face. This model comes with a 2.0 litre turbocharged, four-cylinder engine that produces 252 hp. This translates to an impressive turn of speed and along with the seamless shifting provided by the 8-speed transmission, one smooth ride. We found the steering, cornering and braking abilities of this model to be superb which ensured we felt safe throughout the experience.

Furthermore, the compact size of this SUV makes it perfect for manoeuvring around busy city streets. Adding to this feeling of security are the numerous safety features for which Volvo has been so highly praised. These include a Blind Spot Information System, a Pilot Assist

System, City Safety, Run-off Road protection & mitigation, as well as Cross Traffic alert with brake support. This constantly monitors the driver’s surroundings for potential hazards, such as other vehicles, pedestrians, or even large animals, that could potentially cause an accident. These systems will safely intervene as soon as an imminent collision is detected, and will even guide the driver safely back onto the road if they detect the vehicle drifting off-course. One can be assured that Volvo has placed the safety of both you and your family at the forefront of XC40’s design.

By the time we arrived back at the showroom, we were convinced that the 2020 Volvo XC40 T4 is a premium, functional and family-friendly vehicle that is sure to improve the life of anyone lucky enough to own one.
