THE EXCEPTIONAL NEW FERRARI ROMA

FERRARI SHOWCASES ITS CLASS – YET AGAIN – WITH THE NEW FERRARI ROMA.

There are few motorcar brands that can hold a candle to the world-famous Ferrari. Perfecting its trade since 1929 and producing nearly untouchable road sports cars since 1940, this storied Italian label has enjoyed massive success and shows no signs of slowing down. When we at Ohlala were offered the opportunity to test drive the stunning new Ferrari Roma, we were delighted and quickly accepted the invitation extended to us by the team at Ferrari Centre Bahrain.

As soon as we laid eyes on the new Roma, we were in love. The exterior of this magnificent vehicle is flawless with its long, ultra-sleek lines and harmonious proportions. It embodies a modern design language with authentic refined styling that takes inspiration from Ferrari classics like the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso and 250 GT 2+2. All unnecessary detailing has been removed, leaving behind a formal minimalism that personifies refinement and sophistication. The clean lines of the body sweep from the front bonnet to the rear, emphasising the slim silhouette of the flanks. The full-LED adaptive headlights are traversed by a horizontal light strip, whilst the twin tail light assembly sits like jewels at the back end. One of the Roma’s defining characteristics is its mobile rear spoiler, integrated into the rear screen that has been designed to retain the vehicle’s elegance when retracted as well as guarantee sufficient downforce essential for the Roma’s extraordinary performance. A practical aspect of this vehicle is the luggage compartment that has a capacity of 272 litres, which can be increased to 345 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Once inside the cabin, we had to sit in silence for a few minutes in order to take in the sheer luxury and attention to detail. No expense has been spared on the materials, trims, and finishes, resulting in an interior fit for royalty. The driver and front passenger spaces have been designed as two separate cells. This dual-cockpit concept takes advantage of all the space on offer and is not focused solely on the dashboard area. The state-of-the-art steering wheel houses all of the car’s main commands, actioned by touch-sensitive controls. This removes the need for the driver to take her eyes off of the road or hands off of the wheel – a useful feature, especially at high speeds. A 16-inch instrument cluster provides all necessary information, whilst the central display (complete with a 8.4-inch vertical screen and new passenger display) offers an intuitive and user-friendly experience.

As impressed as we were by the aesthetics of this outstanding creation, it was the performance that we were most eager to experience. The new Ferrari Roma boasts a V8 – 90° turbo engine that produces 456 kW at 5750 – 7500 rpm and 760 Nm of torque at 3000 – 5750 rpm. This beast of an engine combined with the 8-speed F1 dual-clutch gearbox, translates to a top speed of 320km/h and allows the Roma to surge from 0 – 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. Believe us when we tell you that this engine sounds exactly like any sports car enthusiast would want it to sound and the feeling of being pushed back into your seat as the g-forces take hold is extremely exciting, to say the least. We thoroughly enjoyed driving around in this vehicle. With its responsive handling, unbelievable traction control, and superior braking system, we always felt in complete control of the driving experience and received more than our fair share of envious looks from fellow drivers as we passed by. Lastly, the optional Ferrari Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, will ensure that day-to-day and longer journeys are equally relaxing.

The new Ferrari Roma proved to be an exceptional sports car in every sense of the word. From its beautifully designed exterior to the luxurious interior and exceptional performance capabilities, we were hard-pressed to find a single fault with this deluxe motor vehicle.

“All unnecessary detailing has been removed, leaving behind a formal minimalism that personifies refinement and sophistication.”
