PORSCHE REAFFIRM THEIR PRESENCE IN THE LUXURY SUV SEGMENT WITH THE 2020 PORSCHE MACAN S.
Porsche is considered to be one of the best known and most highly prized sports car brands in the world. Since releasing their very first production automobile, the Prototype 356, in 1948, this German vehicle manufacturer has gone from strength-to-strength and provided us with a multitude of ever more impressive offerings over the decades. Most recently, the brand has released the 2020 model of the already highly prized Porsche Macan S. We at Ohlala recently received the privilege of test driving this new version, compliments of the great team at Porsche Middle East & Africa FZE.
As expected from Porsche, the new streamlined exterior of this five-door luxury crossover SUV is sublime. Its flowing lines and curves ensure the entire body looks magnificent, providing a visual harmony of power and panache. The Macan’s latest facelift includes a threedimensional rear LED light bar that extends across the width of the vehicle, giving it an overall wider appearance. At the front end, the newly shaped LED headlights are fitted as standard whilst the car bonnet, designed to wrap around them, adds a novel touch. The Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus), used to control light distribution, is offered as an optional extra. The standard dual, double exhaust system is another feature that hints at the performance capabilities of this outstanding vehicle.
The Macan’s chassis has been overhauled to ensure maximum comfort and overall efficiency. It features mixed-sized tyres, ranging from 18 to 21-inches, that allow a dynamic driving style to be adopted when combined with the intelligent all-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system. These tyres have been designed with superior capabilities to ensure ultimate performance on the roads. The Porsche Active Stability Management (PASM) active damper control system, heightadjustable air suspension with optimised rolling pistons and new shock absorber hydraulics, as well as Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), are all available as optional extras, and have been designed to improve the model’s driving dynamics and handling even further. More than impressed with the outer beauty and functional design of the Macan S, we turned our collective attention to the interior.
We sighed as we slipped into the comfortable front seats, instantly enveloped in a sense of luxury and relaxation. Throughout the interior, the designers have used the highestend materials and trimmings with every finish highlighting the perfection of their craftsmanship. The front seats are heated and cooled and allow for pre-set settings for both the driver and front passenger. The rear seating offers a decent amount of leg and head room, whilst the cargo area provides ample space for an entire family’s luggage. The optional GT sports steering wheel, borrowed from the Porsche 911, feels great in hand. The new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system comes complete with a 10.9- inch, full-HD touchscreen and includes, as standard, navigation, mobile phone connection, two audio interfaces and intelligent voice control. This system can be adjusted to suit an individual’s personal preferences. Having completed our internal inspection, it was time to engage the ignition.
The new Porsche Macan S boasts a freshly developed 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 engine and it sounds superb. This high-performance machine delivers 354 hp (260 kW) and has a maximum torque of 480 Nm. This translates to a top speed of 254 km/h and when equipped with the optional Sports Chrono Package, can shoot from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. Pretty impressive for a vehicle weighing in at 1870 kgs. Weaving along the roads, we found the Macan S to carry its weight very well, providing a comfortable, well-balanced, agile and efficient performance. Importantly, the designers have managed to reduce the vehicle’s emissions to ensure it is friendlier to the environment. The performance of the 2020 Macan S is strengthened by its impressive handling, ample traction and superior braking system, ensuring the driver is in full control throughout the duration of the drive. These components along with an array of safety features allow one to feel at ease knowing the safety of you and your loved ones have been at the heart of the design of this family orientated vehicle.
