We talked all things beauty with MELISSA SGAGLIONE-SEGANTI, Director of Communications at tarte™
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Over my career I’ve had the chance to work with a variety of different beauty, fashion, fitness and lifestyle brands. Joining tarte earlier this year has been more thrilling than I could have even imagined—it’s such an exciting, growing brand where there is no limit on creativity and strategy. It’s a great team to be a part of, and when I’m not in the office or at an event they know they can probably catch me running in Central Park or at a nearby spin class!
What does a typical day in your job role at Tarte Cosmetics look like?
No two days look the same. I’ll be planning for an international trip one day, working with media on a story another day, and identifying a new brand partner or collaboration the next. That’s what I love about working at tarte, there is always something new to explore and a new challenge to tackle!
What has been your biggest challenge to date?
How did you overcome this? The public relations field is always evolving. When I entered this industry over a decade ago the landscape of media was different. We were still faxing! It’s been challenging to stay forward thinking and adapt with the times.
I’m an official convert to Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. What is your favourite Tarte product and why?
shape tape™ is definitely one of my favourite products. My day-to-day look doesn’t always require a ton of makeup, but it always involves shape tape™! I love it because a little goes a long way – it completely covers any dark circles, conceals spots and hides redness. The other product that’s in my bag right now is the tarteist™ Amazonian clay pro to go palette. I’ve been traveling a lot recently so it’s perfect to have this little compact with all my favourite shades in it – even when I’m not traveling this one’s always in my rotation.
Tell us your #1 beauty hack and/ or tip(s) to share with our lovely Ohlala readers.
I’ve always been told that you must take care of your skin first. No matter how much makeup you wear you want to have healthy skin as your foundation. It’s always been so important to me what I put on my face.
What has been your biggest achievement in your career?
There have been so many great moments throughout my career, when I step back and take it all in its truly so hard to choose one. Right now, I’m thankful that I have the opportunity to work for a great brand like Tarte, that has been cruelty-free for 19+ years and is the pioneer of high-performance naturals.
Can you give us any intel on any upcoming launches with Tarte Cosmetics?
We’re continuing to innovate within our shape tape™ line – shape tape™ concealer is our #1 product so we’re always looking for ways to complement it! You can expect a really fabulous new addition to the shape tape collection coming soon!

SHE JOINED SWEATY BETTY IN 2015 TO BUILD AND ESTABLISH THE US MARKETING TEAM, OPENING STORES ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND GARNERING BRAND AWARENESS IN THE ATHLEISURE MARKETPLACE. DURING HER TENURE SHE OPENED 13 STORES, FACILITATED IMAGE-ENHANCING REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS, IMPLEMENTED A ROBUST INFLUENCER STRATEGY AND EXECUTED NUMEROUS CONSUMER, PRESS AND INFLUENCER EVENTS
PRIOR TO JOINING SWEATY BETTY IN 2015, MELISSA WORKED AS A VICE PRESIDENT IN HOSPITALITY AND LIFESTYLE FOR DKC PUBLIC RELATIONS, MANAGING TOP LIFESTYLE, BEAUTY, ENTERTAINMENT AND HOSPITALITY ACCOUNTS, INCLUDING JCPENNEY, NEW BALANCE, EXHALE SPA, ULTA BEAUTY AND IHEARTMEDIA’S JINGLE BALL. BEFORE HER TIME WITH DKC, MELISSA WAS WITH FULL PICTURE PUBLIC RELATIONS REPRESENTING SEVERAL PROMINENT CELEBRITY CLIENTS INCLUDING MERCEDES BENZ-FASHION WEEK, VICTORIA SECRET FASHION SHOW, VITAMINWATER, FRÉDÉRIC FEKKAI, AND LIVING PROOF. MELISSA IS A GRADUATE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA. SHE CURRENTLY RESIDES IN NEW YORK CITY WITH HER HUSBAND. IN HER FREE TIME, MELISSA ENJOYS TRAVELLING AND ALL THINGS FITNESSFASHION RELATED. SHE HAS COMPLETED OVER 35 HALF MARATHONS AND TWO NEW YORK CITY MARATHONS.
