New Depths of Blue

More enigmatic than its predecessors, BLEU DE CHANEL L’EXCLUSIF explores intensity over freshness.

CHANEL’s newest addition to the BLEU DE CHANEL line takes the familiar blue into uncharted territory. BLEU DE CHANEL L’EXCLUSIFis presented not simply as another addition but as the most concentrated and complex interpretation yet, a fragrance designed to hold weight and density.

Perfumer-Creator Olivier Polge has reworked the structure with sandalwood as its anchor. This isn’t just any sandalwood but one sourced from Maré, an island in New Caledonia, where CHANEL manages an integrated supply chain. Only the heartwood (rich in essential oils) is selected and treated through a bespoke extraction process. The result is a sandalwood note unlike the standard creamy softness often found in perfumes, here, it is darker, more potent, with a woody trail. Alongside it, cistus labdanum introduces leathery, resinous notes that expand the fragrance into a warm, shadowed scent.

The bottle reflects the same thought process. Its perfect square silhouette remains unchanged, but its play of chiaroscuro makes the colour difficult to pin down, too blue to be black and too black to be blue. It captures the sense of ambiguity that defines L’EXCLUSIF: something between clarity and obscurity, familiarity and elusiveness.

For its campaign, CHANEL continues its collaboration with actor Timothée Chalamet. His role is positioned less as a traditional face of fragrance and more as a symbolic figure, someone defined by forward motion, possibility and an elusive quality that mirrors the concept behind the fragrance.

Within the BLEU family, L’EXCLUSIF marks a shift from brightness and vibrancy to magnetism and intensity. Where earlier editions leaned on citrus, cedar or freshness, this one is sandalwood-heavy, designed as an inward-looking study in density. Available in 60ml and 100ml, it closes the distance between fragrance and concept.
