There’s something reassuring about a Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Like a favourite designer handbag, it never tries too hard – it just quietly reminds you why you chose it. So when the new E 200 Saloon arrived for our test drive, we knew we weren’t merely meeting another executive saloon; we were being reintroduced to a classic reinvented for a new era.
From its sculpted lines to its digital intelligence, this generation promised elegance with an edge – refined for the modern world. We were eager to see if it could deliver that blend of comfort, confidence and unmistakable sophistication that Mercedes-Benz embodies.
EFFORTLESSLY ELEGANT
Our first impressions were unanimous – the E 200 carries itself with such poise that we found ourselves standing a little straighter just looking at it. Every surface reflects Mercedes-Benz’s attention to proportion – elegant rather than loud, with a confident sense of balance that draws the eye naturally along its profile.
The front end sets the tone: a wide grille crowned by the illuminated three-pointed star, flanked by Digital Light headlamps that effortlessly reveal the road ahead. The AMG Line exterior sharpens the silhouette – sculpted bumpers, clean lines and 20-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels complete its runway-ready stance. At the rear, slim LED lamps and twin chrome tailpipes complete the look. It’s modern without trying too hard – composed, confident and camera-ready from every angle.
A MODERN SANCTUARY
Inside, the E 200 greeted us with an instantly lavish feel. Tonka-brown ARTICO leather wrapped the seats, dashboard and doors so beautifully we started questioning every design choice in our own living rooms. Piano-black trim and open-pore ash wood added contrast, while ambient lighting – all 64 shades – let us match the cabin to our mood and even our nail polish. The AMG Line interior refined the atmosphere with a Nappa-leather steering wheel, elegant stitching and comfort seats that remembered every preference. Above, the panoramic sunroof filled the space with natural light, highlighting craftsmanship in every curve. The result is a cabin that feels indulgent yet practical – a place that blends comfort with a quiet sense of privilege.
TECH WITH TASTE
Mercedes-Benz calls it the MBUX Superscreen, and the name fits. A sweeping glass panel stretches across the dash, merging a 12.3-inch display with an OLED passenger screen and a built-in selfie camera that feels distinctly futuristic.

The Burmester surround-sound system gave our playlist concert-level clarity, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connected wirelessly and instantly. The head-up display projected key data onto the windscreen and MBUX Augmented-Reality navigation overlaid directions onto live street views – the kind of innovation that makes regular sat-nav feel prehistoric. The best part? Everything just worked so smoothly that we stopped testing it and simply started enjoying it.
PERFORMANCE WITH PURPOSE
Once on the move, the E 200 revealed its true nature: smooth, composed and quicker than its calm demeanour suggests. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with EQ Boost delivered 204hp so seamlessly that we almost missed the switch between electric and petrol power. It reached 100km/h in 7.5 seconds and, at our private test site, continued to 240km/h – always calm, stable and impressively quiet.
The 9G-TRONIC gearbox moved through its gears like a choreographed dance, precise and unhurried, making city driving effortless. Out on the highway, it glided with balance and refinement. The mild-hybrid system smoothed every start and added a gentle push when needed – proof that performance can be both intelligent and indulgent.
SAFETY IN MOTION
Safety has always been a Mercedes-Benz strength, and the E 200 continues that legacy. Systems like Active Distance Assist Distronic, Blind Spot Assist, Attention Assist and Collision Prevention Assist Plus kept a watchful eye while we focused on the drive. The 360-Degree Parking Package proved its worth when Active Parking Assist guided us neatly into a café space barely wider than the mirrors in the first try, no fluster.
The Agility Control suspension balanced comfort with precision, keeping the car composed over bumps and around bends. Add Pedestrian Protection, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and auto-dimming mirrors and it felt as if the vehicle anticipated trouble before we even noticed it.
PARTING IMPRESSIONS
After a full day behind the wheel, the E 200 left us impressed and a little reluctant to hand back the keys. It reminded us why Mercedes-Benz remains the benchmark for effortless grace. The AMG Line styling, mildhybrid refinement and sense of poise in every detail make this saloon feel familiar yet refreshingly new.
For those who appreciate luxury expressed through craftsmanship rather than extravagance, the E 200 defines understated excellence. It fits seamlessly into daily life, turning routine drives into moments that feel considered and calm. By the time we parked it for the last time, one thing was clear: this isn’t just a car that performs beautifully, it’s one that feels perfectly in tune with its driver.
