A Masterclass in Subtlety

The award-winning Tonda PF from Parmigiani Fleurier receives a new upgrade.

Parmigiani Fleurier expands its Tonda PF collection with a new interpretation – the Tonda PF Automatic Steel Rose Gold, Deep Ruby. The model builds on the collection’s awardwinning design, which received recognition at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2022, and is now presented in a colourway that adds warmth to the existing line.

The watch’s Deep Ruby dial defines its character. Parmigiani Fleurier describes the tone as a blend of burgundy and plum, a colour that reacts to light rather than presenting as a flat shade. CEO Guido Terreni explains that for the brand, colour is never intended to be loud or decorative, instead, it’s developed through layered tonal depth. In this case, Deep Ruby shifts between softer and darker hues depending on its surroundings, giving the dial a sense of movement and dimension.

The dial carries the brand’s signature Grain d’Orge guilloché pattern, handmade using traditional engraving tools. This fine texture, characteristic of the Tonda PF line, adds both tactility and visual depth. The hour indices are set with 12 hand-applied baguette-cut diamonds, each chosen for its clarity and geometry. Together they amount to approximately 0.36 carats, graded D-G in colour and IF-VVS in clarity. The diamonds serve a functional role, marking the hours with precision while maintaining a restrained aesthetic.

The case combines stainless steel and 18-carat rose gold, finished with alternating polished and satin surfaces. It measures 36mm in diameter and 8.6mm in thickness, proportions that retain the Tonda PF’s balanced form. The knurled bezel, a hallmark of the collection, is machined to a fine texture that complements the polished case surfaces. The ARunic sapphire crystal provides anti-reflective protection on both sides, while the sapphire caseback reveals the movement within.

Parmigiani Fleurier has designed the bracelet as a continuation of the case architecture rather than a separate component. Stainless steel and rose gold links are integrated in a tapering form, described by the brand as a river of gold. Each link transitions smoothly into the next, combining polished and satin finishes for a fluid appearance. The bracelet closes with a stainless steel folding clasp, completing the streamlined design.
